Multinational Peacekeeping Training in Nepal

The U. S. Army instructional team staffed lane six where the platoons secured a food distribution site, reacted to a civil disturbance, and learned how to deal with news media representatives during their peacekeeping mission.

Previously, most countries, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, trained unilaterally prior to participation in peacekeeping operations. Participation in this multinational training exercise contributed to interoperability for peacekeeping, by training to UN standards, instead of each country training separately to its own standards.

The multinational peacekeeping training exercise established common standards and guidelines for rules of engagement under UN guidelines. The training also promoted the concept for regional peacekeeping training and participation. Thus, in future regional peacekeeping operations, peacekeepers from the Asia-Pacific region, trained to UN standards, can provide the needed peacekeeping force, rather than having to seek troops from other regions in the world.
