As a result, TMAC will have demonstrated a provincially-based integrated humanitarian mine action capability, established national technical guidelines, and exercised standard operating procedures for humanitarian demining in the field. The pilot program will provide the government with the experience needed to replicate the best practices they develop for the entire national mine action program. Eventually, mine detection dog teams and mechanical assistance to demining will be added to the PHMAU.
While the presence of landmines and unexploded ordnance will continue to be a major obstacle to Thailand’s development and economical growth, the country is on the road to implementing a superb National Humanitarian Demining Program.
