Exercise Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training 99–(CARAT 99)–took place bilaterally between the U.S. Navy and the armed forces of Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia in the summer of 1999. CARAT 99 was the fifth in the series of annual bilateral exercise opportunities between a task group of the U.S. Seventh Fleet and friendly forces of Southeast Asia nations. CARAT 99 also included a number of exercise firsts. Each phase of CARAT 99 emphasized in-port and at-sea operations that promoted cooprative engagement and interoperability between the host country and U.S. forces.

Lt. Cmdr. Cate Mueller is the Public Affairs Officer for the Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific/CTF 712. Lt.j.g. Corey Barker, USNR, deployed for CARAT 99 with Commander, Destroyer Squadron One/CTG 712.0.
