U.S. Pacific Command
Changes Commander in Chief

I am very pleased to return to the Pacific where I served several previous tours of duty. I look forward to working with the leaders of the Asia-Pacific armed forces to promote security and peaceful development in a region of great importance to the United States and to the world. I also look forward to commanding the superb men and women of the U.S. Pacific Command. To Adm. Joseph W. Prueher, the outgoing Commander in Chief, I extend my best wishes and the best wishes of all members of the command for "fair winds and following seas."

I leave this assignment with great satisfaction that, together, we have accomplished much to advance peace and stability in the region as well as strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the armed forces of the nations of the Asia-Pacific and the United States. The U.S. Pacific Command is grateful for the support of so many regional leaders whom we not only respect and admire, but also consider friends. Above all, I leave with the highest respect for the superb professionals of the U.S. Armed Forces in the Pacific; without them, such regional accomplishments could not have been achieved. Best wishes to all for continuing peace and progress.

Adm. Joseph W. Prueher, USN
