The
arrival of U.S. paratroopers on Australian soil signaled the start of
the largest military exercise held in Australia in the past five years,
according to an Australian Defence Army News release. Paratroopers
from the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR), U.S.
Army Alaska, kicked off the exercise as they jumped onto Singleton Drop
Zone, New South Wales, to rendezvous with their Aussie allies.
