The
JWID 2002 PTI demonstrations highlighted the following automated tools
that enhance interoperability among military forces from several Asia-Pacific
nations with different languages:
USPACOMs Combined Operations Wide Area Network (COWAN): Web-based
planning tools to facilitate secure sharing of classified data.
Tactical Language Translators: hand-held and portable units that provide
computer based translation of English to Korean, Thai, Japanese, Cambodian,
Chinese, Tagalog, Arabic, Dar, Pushto, and Urdu.
Telemedicine Advanced Concept Technology: Web-based tool set that enhances
medical situation awareness in the battlefield while providing a common
operational picture.
Asia-Pacific Area Network (APAN) demonstration: Web-based capability
to enhance interoperability among multinational forces, UN representatives,
and non-government organizations. APAN integrates information to increase
planning and interoperability, links disaster centers and data sources
to speed the flow of crisis information, and provides simple means for
user access and sharing of information.
