After 11 September 2001, a number of counteries contributed military assets to the Global War on Terrorism. An excellent example are the naval warships India provided to safeguard U.S. noncombatant and merchant ships trasiting the Strait of Malacca, which freed U.S. Navy ships for missions in that war.

The large patrol craft INS Sukanya (P 50) helped protect U.S. vessels from possible terrorist attacks in the Strait of Malacca for half a year. It replaced the INS Sharada (P 55) for that same mission.
