U.S. Flood Relief for Vietnam
- continued -

A Vietnamese Army member helps U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. David Walker unload the water purification system which can produce 68,100 liters (18,000 gallons) of purified drinking water an hour.

This marks the third time that U.S. military aircraft have airlifted U.S. relief supplies for floods in response to natural disasters or floods in Vietnam. In 1997, a U.S. Air Force C-141 supported relief operations after a powerful typhoon struck the Mekong Delta area. More recently, in November 1999, two U.S. Air Force C-130s from the 353rd Special Operations Group based at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, flew approximately 20 tons of relief supplies into Hue for the flooded central region.

Among the tons of donated U.S. relief supplies was enough plastic sheeting to shelter 4,000 families. Students at Beale Air Force Base, California, added the teddy bear.
