Among U.S. forces sent to participate in the Korean-U.S. rear area
defense exercise, FOAL EAGLE 97 (27 October-6 November 1997), were
500 combat vehicles and troops of the U.S. 1st Cavalry Division.
Their vehicles were sealifted to test real-world defense plans.

April 1998 when two of the high-precision, lethal stealth bombers

One of the U.S. Navy's newest nuclear-powered attack submarines,
USS Cheyenne (SSN 773), joined the U.S. Pacific Fleet's Pacific
Submarine Force at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in March 1998. The improved
Los Angeles class submarine carries Tomahawk cruise missiles and
conducts anti-submarine warfare.
