• -"Stepping Forward" by Lt. Col. Mary Anne Schaab, New Zealand Armed Forces, focused on her experiences as a nurse during a 14-week deployment to East Timor where New Zealand forces have been deployed since October 1999. Lt. Col. Schaab’s presentation dealt with East Timor being in the early stages of "stepping forward" in developing the infrastructure and systems to provide an acceptable level of health support to the population.

•-Sr. Col. Tim Chitpatima, Phramongkutklao Hospital, Thailand, presented an abstract on "Thailand-Hawaii Assessment of Interactive Healthcare Initiative: Dengue Fever Outbreak." When the state of Hawaii experienced a Dengue Fever outbreak in 2001, Thai healthcare providers were able to provide expertise to the U.S., as the disease is endemic to Southeast Asia.

Lt. Gen. (Dr.) Jetley Ravinder, Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services, India, expressed his appreciation for the conference. "It is important that we come together and learn from one another," said Lt. Gen. Ravinder.

The general consensus among the delegates — to include Col. Kasem Phinyochon and Col. Parinya Thavichaigarn of the Royal Thai Army — was the conference offered educational and interesting presentations in an exceptional setting provided by the hospitality of the Malaysian Armed Forces.
