The Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyers are, for their size, the deadliest U.S. Navy fighting ships ever launched. The USS Paul Hamilton, (DDG-60) is the third of its class to be assigned to the U.S. Pacific Fleet, with home port in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Asian Aerospace 98 is one of the world's premier aerospace shows, hosted by Singapore at the Changi Exhibition Center. The show attracted 45,000 public and 25,000 trade visitors to view 929exhibitors' products and 70 aircraft from 33 countries.

The first South Asian Peacekeeping Experience seminar was held in Dhaka in February 1998. It was organized and hosted by the Bangladesh Army. Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Hasina Wajed poses with guest speakers and attendees.

The USS Vincennes is refueled by the USS Belleau Wood off the Australian coast.

Amphibious Squadron Eleven included the Belleau Wood Amphibious Ready Group composed of the USS Belleau Wood (LHA-3) with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) embarked, the USS Dubuque (LPD-8), and the USS Germantown (LSD-42). The group was joined by the Australian destroyer HMAS Perth (DDG-38) and the U.S. cruiser USS Vincennes (CG-49). The USS Vincennes is refueled by the USS Belleau Wood off the Australian coast.
