Foreword: Dear Readers, After visiting many of the 41 nations in the region, I am impressed by the frank and collaborative interaction I have experienced with regional leaders. Collectively, we understand the importance of developing and strengthening the relationships that are essential to addressing common interests and achieving mutual goals. Further, we agree that by furthering security and stability in the Pacific, we provide the foundation for regional prosperity. At U.S. Pacific Command, we remain convinced our continued success is rooted in the commitment of like-minded nations to work together to preserve a secure environment for the benefit of the region and its people. Enjoy the reading. And again, keep in mind this magazine is designed to provide an opportunity for exchange between those of us who wear the cloth of our respective nations. Please send us your thoughts and comments so the Asia-Pacific Defense Forum is able to better serve our region (e-mail us at apdforum@apan-info.net).
