Working Together for a Secure Asia-pacific Region By Admiral Timothy J. Keating

Dear Readers,
Welcome to the 4th Quarter issue of Asia-Pacific Defense FORUM, where we again share our perspective on several regional issues and events. With this issue, we convey our sense of the tremendous opportunity that exists now and well into the future in the Asia-Pacific (see “Moving the Throttle Forward in the Pacific” on page 32).

After visiting many of the 41 nations in the region, I am impressed by the frank and collaborative interaction I have experienced with regional leaders. Collectively, we understand the importance of developing and strengthening the relationships that are essential to addressing common interests and achieving mutual goals. Further, we agree that by furthering security and stability in the Pacific, we provide the foundation for regional prosperity. At U.S. Pacific Command, we remain convinced our continued success is rooted in the commitment of like-minded nations to work together to preserve a secure environment for the benefit of the region and its people.
